Federal Minister for Climate Change and Environmental Coordination Meets Syrian Ambassador to Discuss Regional Peace and Stability

ISLAMABAD (May 15, 2025) — Ambassador of Syria to Pakistan, Dr. Ramez Alraee on Thursday called on Federal Minister for Climate Change and Environmental Coordination Dr. Musadik Malik and discussed the ongoing situation in Syria and broader issues concerning peace and security in Middle East.

During the meeting, both sides expressed deep concern over the ongoing Israeli aggression and condemned the unlawful occupation of Syrian territory. They underscored the urgent need for a peaceful resolution and long-term stability in the region.
Dr. Malik reaffirmed Pakistan’s unwavering support for Syria’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and national dignity. “Pakistan has always stood by its brotherly country, Syria, and will continue to advocate for its just and rightful stance on the international stage,” he stated.

Ambassador Alraee provided a sobering overview of the humanitarian crisis unfolding in Syria. He detailed the severe challenges faced by the Syrian people, particularly widespread electricity shortages—with some regions receiving less than two hours of power daily—exacerbating already dire living conditions.

The Minister emphasized that peace in Syria is essential not only for the Middle East but also for global stability. He highlighted three critical priorities: access to essential resources, affordability of those resources, and then their broader availability. Dr. Malik stressed that the concept of “access” varies greatly between the Global North and South, necessitating a more nuanced and inclusive global approach.

In a gesture of goodwill, Ambassador Alraee praised the professionalism and courage of the Pakistan Air Force and commended Pakistan’s role in facilitating a timely ceasefire with India.

Dr. Malik noted that Indian aggression appears to be influenced by an “Israeli doctrine,” which seeks to impose a hegemonic world order through force and dominance.

The meeting concluded with both parties reaffirming their mutual commitment to regional peace, the protection of sovereign rights, and the promotion of global justice and equality.
