US-based firm Minus 2 Degree discuss strategies for tackling climate change

Islamabad (February 04, 2025) – A delegation from Minus 2 Degrees (M2D), a US-based company specializing in carbon neutrality, met with top key officials of the Ministry of Climate Change & Environmental Coordination (MoCC&EC) and discussed strategies for tackling climate change.

The meeting focused on carbon reduction and sustainability solutions, with Ms. Alam highlighting Pakistan's carbon trading policy guidelines as a key step toward establishing a national carbon market.

“This initiative is promoting sustainability solutions, which help carbon footprints of business sector is only possible adoption of cleaner technologies in trade and commerce sectors. This can help the country transition to a low-carbon economy,” Ms. Alam remarked.

M2D representatives offered carbon neutrality services, emphasising advanced emissions management tools. They presented projects aligned with Pakistan’s climate goals, including reducing emissions by 50% by 2030, transitioning to 60% renewable energy, and expanding nature-based solutions.

During the meeting Secretary MoCC&EC Aisha Humera Moriani highlighted the unprecedented significance of collaboration with local and international stakeholders to implement the carbon trading guidelines of Pakistan successfully, ensuring transparency in carbon credit generation and trading.

Secretary Aisha Humera Moriani also ephasised importance of the role and collaboration with the Board of Investment, Government of Pakistan, and provincial governments to support net-zero initiatives in the country’s industrial sector, citing Bangladesh’s successful model as an example.
