Pakistan Seeks Stronger Science Diplomacy for Climate Action as Dr Musadik Malik Meets SciTech DiploHub CEO
ISLAMABAD (January 28, 2026): Federal Minister for Climate Change and Environmental Coordination Dr Musadik Malik on Monday met Chief Executive Officer of SciTech DiploHub, Mr Alexis Roig, to discuss strengthening the integration of science diplomacy into climate action and policymaking in Pakistan. According to an official statement, Dr Malik appreciated SciTech DiploHub’s pioneering role in bridging science and diplomacy, terming such integration an urgent global requirement, particularly for climate-vulnerable countries like Pakistan. The minister said Pakistan continues to face severe economic and social pressures due to climate change, making science-based and evidence-driven policymaking essential for effective climate action. The meeting focused on leveraging Pakistan’s local knowledge, academic expertise and research institutions, while exploring the development of structured training and fellowship programmes, including models to embed scientists within government ministries to support policy formulation and implementation. Both sides agreed to jointly develop a detailed roadmap within a week to guide future collaboration. The proposed framework aims to mobilise the AGC and around 100 PhD-level climate scientists, enhance access to climate financing, and establish sustainable scientific advisory mechanisms. The meeting was attended by representatives from the Higher Education Commission, Global Change Impact Studies Centre, leading universities, national research organisations and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
